Story Time

Behind the record holders come sacrifices, along with sweat, tears, and blood.

Olivia: A Champion Born in a School Parking Lot

Who says you need a field and track to train? Sometimes the venue is limited, but the will is not. Olivia, one of our standout athletes, was nurtured in a school parking lot—proof that determination matters more than ideal conditions. No track? Never mind, we make do with what we have.

Sports, especially in resource-limited environments, teach us more than just athletics. They force us to be creative, to think outside the box. Some say, “It’s not a proper place for running,” but we believe it’s these very conditions that shape fighters and resilient thinkers. When faced with challenges, you don’t stop—you work through them.

"One Minute on Stage, Ten Years of Hard Work"

As the Chinese saying goes, “台上一分钟,台下十年功,” meaning “one minute on stage requires ten years of effort off stage.” The brief moments of glory we witness are the result of years of relentless hard work. This is especially true for Olivia and her SJKC Kuen Cheng 1 teammates, who broke the 4x200m MSSD record.

Olivia’s journey was far from easy. Training in a school parking lot, she once fell while practicing hurdles—a moment that was captured on video. But that fall was just another step on the path to success. Fast forward to the 4x200m relay, where Olivia and her teammates—Claries, Abigail, and Breyann—shattered the existing record.

The race itself was a true test of resilience. During the handoff, our third runner was accidentally stepped on by the second runner, Breyann, spiked by nails and losing a shoe. Despite the wound and running with one bare foot, she didn’t stop. With grit and determination, she sprinted through the pain, and together, they set a new record.

This moment speaks not only to breaking records but to the perseverance, creativity, and teamwork required to overcome the toughest of circumstances. Watch the videos of Olivia's fall during hurdle training and the dramatic 4x200m race that ended in triumph.

What’s next?

While we’re eagerly awaiting confirmation on whether Zen Yi will represent Selangor in MSSM Pendidikan Khas, our focus now shifts to the upcoming events.

  • MSSWPKL is just three weeks away—let's wish our athletes the best of luck!

  • MSSM Track & Field will take place from 18th to 25th October.

Thank you to all the parents and students for your incredible support throughout the season. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness our athletes push their limits and see many break their personal records! And of course, stay tuned for our 5th Kawan Athletics Championship—coming soon!
